Nach Baliye 3 Result - glory and shame

Just finished watching the finals of Nach Baliye 3 - am so glad Aamir Ali and Sanjeeda Shaikh won - I feel they were really the best dancers, especially Sanjeeda. What shocked me was the unsporting behaviour of Rakhi Sawant and Abhishek who lost, walked off the stage, didn’t come on to take their runners-up trophy, and didn’t come forward to congratulate the winners. It’s a real shame - it’s just a competition for heaven’s sake - and one of so many reality shows/ talent hunts on air currently. The shame’s not in losing - it’s in being a really bad sport about it. Hope this doesn’t set a precedent for other shows and a growing generation of Indians who are learning to face competition.

The picture is of a hoarding at Mahim Causeway that was giving us live ’scores’ [picture courtesy rediff.com] - reality shows are becoming as popular as cricket and Bollywood in India - stakes I guess are high. Still it’s just a competition, and its really no shame to be among the best, even if you’re not No. 1.

We’ve never been graceful when we lose but then we’ve never learned how, as we aren’t really competitive as a people. With the exception of our politicians, who seem to have amazing resilience, often bounding back in an election. Our cricketers, to their credit can be gracious losers - the public behind them isn’t. It’s human to feel bad when you lose, but when celebrities behave as Rakhi did, its even worse, as we know how we love emulating our celebrities as a nation. Especially when young kids are participating in these shows, its good to inculcate the spirit of healthy competition. Just the other night, I was watching Zee Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L’il Champs and I was absolutely stunned when the father of Loria Doshi, one of the contestants who was knocked out, started objecting, saying that his daughter couldn’t have lost as he had spent Rs.75, 000 in garnering SMS votes and had sent in several thousands of email votes from different locations for her. The little girl seemed so embarrassed by her parent’s behaviour. It’s really sad that parents are so desperate for their kids to win - imagine the pressure on the child.

One of the fall-outs of a changing India, where instant stardom and fame are desired and aspired to.

Anyways that’s my late night rant .. just couldn’t help myself!

I think NachBaliye 3 was pre-planned. And rakhi and abhishek were the BEST DANCER. Star wanted to increase the trp and hence this happened.

I think reality shows are BOGUS
